Do You Really Know What You’re Eatting? Do You Care?

Do You Really Know What You’re Eatting? Do You Care?

Food, Inc. is a documentary coming to theaters June 12th. A summery of the movie reads,

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. Food, Inc. reveals surprising — and often shocking truths — about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

We should be mindful of our foodincine (yes, food and medicine). It affects every other part of our lives. (more…)

Facebook Haikus – Swine Flu

Facebook Haikus – Swine Flu

Over at Facebook I asked friends to drop me a haiku.  The topic: ‘Swine Flu’. Here’s what these witty wordsmiths came up with.

Kimchi Killed bird flu /
Swine flu is no match either /
Korea is safe
~ Josie

I like that Josie.  Brought Korea into the mix.

NATO is free trade /
but we did not mean swine flu /
goodbye Mexico
~ Marcus

There are a few more. (more…)

Visualized Nightmares

Visualized Nightmares

For ‘a Thousand Words on Thursday’ here is an album set from Joshuah Offine I found over at the Kontraband. The album is of Childhood Fears Visualized. The pictures seemed a little creepy at first, but then it’s like, “Okay…pretty cool.”

My question is, how did they get this kids to look so scared? Answer: CAUSE THEY ARE!

Are Copyrights the Right way?

The latest episode of EpicFU really brings home the issues of current copyright laws. With the whole fiasco created by the guilty verdict in the Pirate Bay trial, and a recent incident that happened to Leo over at Zen Habits (a writer wanted him to pay royalties for saying “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyways” the title of her book….and get this, Leo has never even heard of the book!), the issue of copyrighting is a’stirring (more…)

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity | Video on TED.com

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity | Video on TED.com.

Ken Robinson makes many well put points about our education system and cultivating creativity.  Enjoy.

This got edited out of a poem that was inspired by this presentation:

We are all born creative
but through conventional education
the burn of imagination is stifled and it dies.
So I say to everyone,
pick up your tool before it’s too late
and shine.

Eye of the Tiger Kids

Eye of the Tiger Kids – CollegeHumor Video.

Creativity should be taught from an early age.  I commend this teacher for exposing these youngsters to the ‘joy of music’ in their formative years.

Look how ‘into it’ they are (except for the chubby kid at 0:31).

They have more songs over at YouTube.

Who Loves a Good Joke?

I know I do.

If you’re in the mood to laugh, head to http://www.oldjewstellingjokes.com/.

It’s like “Grumpy Old Men” with less ‘grumpy’ and more ‘funny’.

Really, What Do You Know ‘Bout Me?

Everyone Has Questions credit: Calavera

Everyone Has Questions (credit: {link:http://www.flickr.com/photos/calavera/65098350/}Calavera{/link})

FIRST! Thank you for coming to the site.

Currently, I’m building my about section, and I’m doing it in a Q and A format. Already I answered questions about me, poetry, the site and so on, BUT…there is always that one question that is always missed.

That’s where I need your help.

What questions do you want answered? First about this site, and after that, get as crazy as you want.  Ask what you always wanted to, but never thought I’d really answer. Now I’m not saying I’ll answer it.  I’m just saying, you never know, so ask.  You may be surprised.

Remember what they told you in grade school,

“There are no stupid questions…but there are stupid people who ask really silly questions. Don’t be one of them.”~ A Really Bad Teacher

Yeah, I didn’t go to a very good grade school.

So drop a question in the comments below, and look for a reply. It just may end up on the about page.

And remember…

A friend told me, “Now you better keep this one on point Marcus”. I said, “I kind of have to, it’s my name! Well, this is a post to let you know things are still cooking in the back and soon we’ll bring out the savory poetry. Hold on tight, and you won’t you starve much longer. Thanks.
